About The Community
The city was incorporated in 1908 and at that time, it was a part of Dade County though it was once in Palm Beach County. Its early claim to fame was that it was the southernmost railroad station of the famous Florida East Coast Railway. The first train arrived here in 1896. Agriculture was the main occupation but the city grew rapidly into a beach town on the eastern side while it was a farming town on the western side. In 1947, the original city of Pompano merged with the beach area and was officially renamed as the City of Pompano Beach. Today despite its rapid growth and development, Pompano Beach is a quiet seaside community with the benefits of a major metropolitan area.
Pompano Beach depends a great deal on tourism as well as light manufacturing, retail, and high technology. Three thousand acres have been earmarked for industrial and commercial development. Conveniently, close to two international airports, several international seaports, railways and highways, Pompano Beach is a gateway to the world. The City of Pompano Beach offers excellent educational opportunities for students of all ages. Good job opportunities and education are well matched with great recreational activities.
