About the Community
West Miami is a community in Miami Dade County, landlocked between the cities of Hialeah, Miami Lakes, and Coral Gables. Just about three-quarters of a square mile in area, West Miami is home to a bit more than eight thousand people. Nestled between S.W 8th Street, better known to residents as Calle Ocho and Coral Way, that is S.W 24th Street, the only way the city can now grow is by the annexation of neighboring areas.
Florida started developing after World War II and land and private enterprises were allotted in the area of West Miami by the federal government to attract new residents. Soldiers returning from the war took advantage of the free lots offered and built homes in West Miami earning it the name, town of Veterans.
